About Echeveria 'Star Gem'

Echeveria 'Star Gem' is a striking succulent prized for its elegant leaf shape and refined coloration. Its rosette is formed by smooth, glossy emerald-green leaves accented with delicate red margins and long, slender red tips that give the plant a star-like appearance. Under ideal growing conditions, the foliage becomes an even brighter lime green, while subtle white, diamond-like markings emerge across the leaf surface, creating a beautiful jewel-like effect. This combination of vibrant color, crisp leaf edges, and intricate patterns makes 'Star Gem' a standout addition to any succulent collection.

How to Care for Echeveria 'Star Gem'

Sun/Location: Echeveria 'Star Gem' prefers a bright location with several hours of direct morning sunlight or abundant filtered light throughout the day. Adequate light helps preserve its compact rosette while enhancing the vivid red leaf margins and pointed tips. During spring and autumn, outdoor growing in a sunny, well-ventilated location often produces the best coloration. In regions with intense summer heat, provide light afternoon shade to prevent sunburn. If grown indoors, place the plant near a south- or east-facing window, or supplement with a quality grow light if natural light is limited.

Soil/Pot: Plant 'Star Gem' in a loose, well-draining succulent mix that allows excess water to drain away quickly. A growing medium amended with pumice, perlite, lava rock, or other coarse mineral materials helps maintain healthy roots and reduces the risk of rot. Select a pot with drainage holes, and avoid using a container that is much larger than the plant, as excess soil tends to retain unnecessary moisture.

Watering: Water deeply only when the potting mix has dried completely. During the active growing seasons of spring and autumn, regular but moderate watering encourages healthy growth and maintains firm, plump leaves. As temperatures become extremely hot or cold, reduce watering accordingly, since the plant's water requirements decrease. Avoid leaving water trapped inside the rosette, particularly in humid weather, and provide good air circulation to keep the foliage dry and healthy.

Winter shipping

We insist on shipping succulents to our customers all year round. However due to the extreme winter weather, although we pack succulents with as much protective material as possible, plants are still at increased risk of frost on their way to colder areas. We highly recommend adding one 72-hour heat pack to your order or you can request a hold on the package until it warms up.

Please note that The Next Gardener is not responsible for packages that suffer cold damage without a heat pack. We cannot control the weather. Order at your own risk.

Hawaii, Alaska, and Other US Territories

Fortunately, shipping is available to Alaska, Guam, and other U.S. Territories. However, due to numerous factors beyond our control, including customs checks and shipping delays, free shipping to Hawaii and Puerto Rico is not an option. And we can not provide the 14-day quality guarantee for orders going to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The buyer will assume all risk of damage when a delivery is delayed. We appreciate your understanding.
