About Echeveria 'Roca'

Echeveria 'Roca' is aptly named for its tough, stone-inspired aesthetic ("Roca" means "Rock" in Spanish). This variety is a hybrid of Echeveria Robin. Echeveria 'Roca''s leaves are slightly wider than Echeveria Robin's—a distinction that is particularly evident at the base of the leaves—whereas Robin's leaves are narrow and elongated.

In its natural state, the leaves display a high-contrast palette of deep red and vibrant green. However, when "stressed" by bright sunlight and cool temperatures, the 'Roca' undergoes a stunning transformation. The outer leaves deepen into a more intense ruby red, while the heart of the rosette maintains a fresh green glow. Most notably, the stress reveals elegant white farina lines—sharp, geometric imprints that trace the edges and faces of the leaves, giving it a chiseled, crystalline appearance.

How to Care for Echeveria 'Roca'

Sun/Location: To maintain the tight, rock-like rosette and unlock the signature white lines and red stress colors, 'Roca' needs 6–8 hours of bright light daily. It thrives on south-facing windowsills or bright outdoor patios. In low light, the leaves may flatten out and the vibrant red tones will fade.

Soil/Pot: This variety is built for drainage. This 4-inch pot should be filled with a highly gritty succulent mix (we recommend 70% inorganic material like pumice, lava rock, or coarse sand). The goal is to ensure the roots never sit in damp soil, as the 'Roca' is particularly sensitive to excess moisture.

Watering: Practice the "soak and dry" method with discipline. Water thoroughly only when the soil is 100% dry and the leaves feel slightly flexible rather than rock-hard. Always use bottom watering or a long-neck can to protect the delicate farina; getting water on the leaves can leave permanent spots or smudge the beautiful white geometric lines.

Propagation: 'Roca' can be propagated through leaf cuttings or by removing offsets (pups) that occasionally appear at the base. Because the leaves are so thick and waxy, leaf cuttings require a very clean break from the stem and several weeks of patience before new growth appears.

Winter shipping

We insist on shipping succulents to our customers all year round. However due to the extreme winter weather, although we pack succulents with as much protective material as possible, plants are still at increased risk of frost on their way to colder areas. We highly recommend adding one 72-hour heat pack to your order or you can request a hold on the package until it warms up.

Please note that The Next Gardener is not responsible for packages that suffer cold damage without a heat pack. We cannot control the weather. Order at your own risk.

Hawaii, Alaska, and Other US Territories

Fortunately, shipping is available to Alaska, Guam, and other U.S. Territories. However, due to numerous factors beyond our control, including customs checks and shipping delays, free shipping to Hawaii and Puerto Rico is not an option. And we can not provide the 14-day quality guarantee for orders going to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The buyer will assume all risk of damage when a delivery is delayed. We appreciate your understanding.

Sorry. No International Shipping for now!!!
