About Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse'
Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' is a rare hybrid Korean succulent belonging to the Echeveria genus, named for its chocolate-colored and wavy, ruffled texture and velvety leaves. The brown ovate-shaped leaves tipped with acuminate apex form the compact rosette, reaching up to 6 inches in diameter. The pinkish-red flowers appear on the stalk in early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The unique appearance and low maintenance make it a popular addition to a succulent collection. Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' resembles Echeveria 'Black Crystal' for the similar appearance, while Echeveria 'Black Crystal' is long-spoon shaped and has pronounced leaf tips.
How to care for Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse'
Sun/Location: Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' feels happy when exposed to abundant bright and scattered light in the growing seasons in spring and autumn. Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' stretches out and becomes over-leggy if not happily stressed. Ideally, Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' should be kept in an environment with temperatures ranging from 60°F to 80°F during the day and around 50°F to 60°F at night. Supply a shade net to protect from the intense and scorching sun, especially during the afternoon when the sun is strongest. Wrap Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' in a garden blanket to keep from freezing frost.
Soil/Pot: E. 'Chocolate Mousse' requires ventilated, airy, and porous potting soil. It is adapted to blend coarse sand or perlite into the potting soil at a 2:1:1 ratio, ensuring proper drainage and preventing E. 'Chocolate Mousse' from sitting in soggy soil. Add gravel or garden rocks at the bottom of the planter pot to stimulate moisture evaporation. Repot E. 'Chocolate Mousse' in warm spring or early summer when this cutie burst out from the original container and upgrade the porosity to healthier growth. Remove the dry and dead leaves in the bottom to prevent pest infection, fungal diseases, and bacteria diseases.
Watering: Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' is drought-tolerant and adapted to dry conditions, requiring infrequent watering. Overwatering will even kill Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse', causing rot root, fungal or bacterial diseases. The soak-and-dry method is adaptable when the upper potting soil is bone dry, which usually means watering Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' every 7-10 days during the growing season in spring and fall, and reducing watering during summer and the dormant season in winter. Water sparingly along the planter edge to the potting soil instead of the rosette or leaves to prevent water spots or scarring. Pick up a planter pot with good drainage, draining away excess water smoothly.
Humidity: The appropriate humidity range of Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' is 30%-50%. Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse' thrives in a well-ventilated area with good airflow, preventing excess moisture from building up around the plant. If you live in a dry area, it is adapted to place a tray of pebbles filled with water in the planter pot bottom to evaporate moisture and increase the humidity around the Echeveria 'Chocolate Mousse'.
