How to care for Cotyledon Orbiculata cv. long Leaf Variegated

Sun/Location: Cotyledon Orbiculata cv.long Leaf Variegated prefers a sunny, warm, and dry environment. It can tolerate drought but not heat or cold. In summer, the plant should be protected from sun and rain, as heat and high humidity can cause leaf drop and root rot. Click here to learn how humidity affects succulents.

Soil/Pot: To ensure optimal growth of Cotyledon Orbiculata cv. long Leaf Variegated during its growth seasons (spring and fall), avoiding the plant sitting in the waterlogging soil mix is essential. Because this plant is more sensitive to high humidity and easily dies from being overwatered. DIY a well-draining cactus soil mix can get finished by mixing pumice, perlite, or grit into the regular potting soil.

Watering/Temperature: The Soak and dry watering method can work for this succulent variety. However, Cotyledon Orbiculata cv. long Leaf Variegated is relatively hard to survive in summer when the temperatures exceed 95°F. In cold winter, move the plant indoors and locate it in a bright location, then stop watering when the temperature goes down to 41°F.

Propagation: Like other Cotyledon family succulents, the best and fast method to propagate Cotyledon Orbiculata cv. long Leaf Variegated is stem clippings. Use clean and sharp garden scissors to cut off at least a 2-3 inch clipping from the mother Cotyledon, and let the cut wound heal over 2 or 3 days before replanting the succulent cutting into a new planter pot.

Winter shipping

We insist on shipping succulents to our customers all year round. However due to the extreme winter weather, although we pack succulents with as much protective material as possible, plants are still at increased risk of frost on their way to colder areas. We highly recommend adding one 72-hour heat pack to your order or you can request a hold on the package until it warms up.

Please note that The Next Gardener is not responsible for packages that suffer cold damage without a heat pack. We cannot control the weather. Order at your own risk.

Hawaii, Alaska, and Other US Territories

Fortunately, shipping is available to Alaska, Guam, and other U.S. Territories. However, due to numerous factors beyond our control, including customs checks and shipping delays, free shipping to Hawaii and Puerto Rico is not an option. And we can not provide the 14-day quality guarantee for orders going to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The buyer will assume all risk of damage when a delivery is delayed. We appreciate your understanding.
