Aeonium 'Pink Witch'
About Aeonium 'Pink Witch'
Aeonium 'Pink Witch' is a striking succulent belonging to the Crassulaceae family, celebrated for its compact growth habit and distinctive rosettes comprised of succulent, fleshy leaves. Typically exhibiting hues of pink, these leaves feature prominent white spots on both surfaces, while the central portion retains a verdant green coloration. Under optimal conditions with adequate light exposure, the white spots transition to a vibrant pink, enhancing the plant's ornamental appeal. This cultivar can reach heights of up to 18 inches and demonstrates prolific offset production from an early stage, swiftly forming an attractive cluster. The spoon-shaped leaves have soft, pointed tips and slightly fringed edges. The intensity of its pink coloration varies throughout the seasons, ranging from vibrant pinks in the height of summer to ghostly pale pink with hints of magenta in lower light conditions during winter.
How to Care for Aeonium 'Pink Witch'
Sunlight/Location: It thrives in bright sunlight; however, direct, intense sunlight can cause its leaves to sunburn. It's best placed in a bright location receiving indirect sunlight or dappled shade, especially during hot summers.
Soil: Unlike most succulents, Aeonium 'Pink Witch' requires sandy loam soil or regular potting soil amended with perlite. Avoid placing it in pre-made succulent soil mixes as it needs more moisture than what those typically provide.
Watering: During the spring and autumn seasons, Aeonium 'Pink Witch' necessitates thorough watering, with intervals between waterings allowing the soil to dry out completely. In winter, watering should be minimized to prevent excessive moisture retention. Although Aeonium 'Pink Witch' demands more water compared to many other succulent varieties, excessive watering poses a risk of root rot. Cease watering unless experiencing drought conditions during its summer dormancy.
Propagation: Aeonium 'Pink Witch' propagates easily through stem cuttings. Take cuttings during the growing season and allow them to dry for a few days before planting.
Temperature: They thrive in temperatures between 65-75°F. Aeodium ‘Pink Witch’ does not like hot or dry weather, so it may go dormant. Additionally, prolonged exposure to temperatures below 30°F can be fatal. In cold weather, bring them indoors or protect them with frost cloth.
