About Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' (4 inch)
Wow! Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' is genuinely a particular plant ingeniously created by Renee O'Connell. It's fascinating that one of its parent plants is the Aeonium tabuliforme. The leaves of this succulent are a sight to behold with their gorgeous green color and creamy yellow edges arranged in a stunning rosette-like pattern that forms a perfect geometric shape. Even though the leaves are not as thick as other succulents, they can still grow to an impressive one foot in diameter. This plant is ideal for those who want a beautiful yet low-maintenance addition to their garden, as it is drought-tolerant.
How to care for Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' (4 inch)
Sun/Temperature: This little plant doesn't like hot summer temperatures and prefers cooler temperatures ranging between 65 and 75 °F. It might be trying to conserve moisture if you see its leaves curling. It's best to keep it away from temperatures below 50℉ for too long in winter. And oh, don't forget about light! Insufficient light can cause the leaves to elongate, so make sure they get some indirect sunlight. Avoid placing it in intense, direct light in the summer, but it can handle more sun in other seasons. And if you have outdoor space, this succulent will love full sunlight.
Soil/Watering: Aeonium Emerald Ice is a lovely plant that thrives in sandy loam soil or regular potting mix. Combine 60% succulent soil and 40% mineral content to create the perfect soil mix. Before watering your Aeonium Emerald Ice, insert a stick into the soil to check if it's dry. Only water the plant when the soil is dry, and ensure water comes from the bottom. Please note that in winter, watering needs to be done with extra care to prevent root rot and frostbite caused by overwatering.
Pot: It is preferable to use pots with drainage holes. Wider pots can be used due to their larger diameter, making watering easier. If potsyou're interested in propagating a succulent, I'd be happy to help. One way to do it is by beheading during spring or autumn. The upper part should have 6-8 leaves, while the lower part should have 5-6 leaves. Use a fishing line to separate the two parts, then let the second part dry in a calm and ventilated area for 2-3 days. Once the wound has healed, you can cut it and transplant the seedlings into breathable soil. Using a watering can keep the soil surface moist before the wound fully recovers. Once the roots have taken hold, you can switch to the soak and watering method.
Fertilization: When caring for your Aeonium Emerald Ice, you don't need to worry too much about fertilizing. Just make sure to give it some half-strength balanced fertilizer during the spring and fall and now and then in between. However, during the summer, it's best to avoid fertilizing altogether since the plant takes a little break.
