Aeonium Aquaman
About Aeonium Aquaman
The Aeonium Aquaman plant features smooth, yellowish leaves that develop a green brocade in the center and a serrated red margin. The leaves grow in a rosette formation at the top of an erect and well-branched stem. The rounded leaves are so neatly arranged that they almost appear artificial, adding to their ornamental value.
How to Care for Aeonium Aquaman
Sun/Temperature: Aeonium Aquaman, like most succulents, thrives when placed in full or partial sun. If you're growing these plants indoors, it's best to place them in a window that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of bright indirect light per day. During the hot summer months, you may need to provide some shade. Lotus palm plants grow best in temperatures ranging from 60 to 80°F. To ensure healthy growth, overwintering temperatures should not fall below 30°F.
Soil/Watering: For optimal growth, it is recommended to use loose and breathable soil. You can prepare the soil by mixing 5 parts of peat soil, 2 parts of coarse sand, and 3 parts of granules.
Aeonium Aquaman is a drought-resistant plant and should not be overwatered in both winter and summer seasons. During the spring and fall growing seasons, watch for the bottom leaves to soften and start before watering and water thoroughly until the soil is completely wet. Overwatering can result in the plant stems and leaves becoming weak and may affect its ornamental value. It is essential to water the plant only when the potting soil is dry. During summer, avoid leaving the pots in prolonged rain, especially the center of the leaf clusters should not be waterlogged, as it may cause heart rot. In winter, watering should be controlled as the temperature is low.
Pot: To ensure the health of Aeonium Aquaman's roots, it is recommended to use a pot that has drainage holes.
Propagation: Aeonium Aquaman is best pruned in early spring by removing the rosette leaf disk and taking cuttings. The remaining stems will produce buds in clusters. However, due to the thin leaves of Aeonium Aquaman, the chances of survival of leaf cuttings are very low. Therefore, leaf cuttings are not recommended for propagation.
Fertilization: Aeonium Aquaman needs to be fertilized with a small amount of basal fertilizer, and once a month during the growing season, it can be fertilized with a thinly rotted liquid fertilizer or a three-dimensional compound fertilizer that is low in nitrogen and high in phosphorus and potassium. Fertilization should be done in the morning when the weather is sunny. It is recommended to water the plant once in the morning of the following day to flush out the fertilizer that is left behind in the soil. Make sure not to splash the fertilizer on the leaves. If plant growth is slow or completely stagnant in summer heat or winter temperatures, fertilizer should be stopped.
